I’m on the road all the time. I’ve just watched, for the second time, The Rehearsal series two which is Nathan Fielder’s program about rehearsing everything so that you know exactly what’s going to go down. Series one starts with them doing quite normal things. A guy wants to confront his friend he does a pub quiz about something and he doesn’t know how to do it. Nathan Fielder builds a whole set of the pub and they act out the pub quiz so that he can be confident. He rigs the quiz but he knows he can’t just cheat or the guy won’t feel confident. 

So they go on this walk. A building is closed off for a crime scene and Nathan Fielder will say to the policeman “That’s a tall building”, the policeman will say “Not the tallest building in the world, though. That’s the Burj Khalifa”. Someone mentions there was a shooting yesterday – “curse the Chinese for inventing gunpowder”. It’s so, so funny and it descends quite quickly. Oh my God, you’ve got to watch it. 

Series two is, I think, the greatest series of TV that isn’t an out-and-out sitcom or drama ever made. He discovers that plane crashes happen because co-pilots aren’t confident enough to tell pilots when they think they’re doing something wrong. So, the whole series is effectively dedicated to exploring this. Most original thing I’ve maybe ever seen. I love it so much. It was a rewatch, but I think I could rewatch it five more times and discover new things about it. 

The comfort show that I would go back to used to be the US Office. The emotion of the UK office is more contained because there’s less time. And Michael Scott is a very different character to David Brent. But then I did it as a subject on Mastermind and ruined it for myself because I made it revision. I haven’t gone back to it since then and that was years ago. So now my comfort show is either Peep Show or It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. They’re the ones that I could just put on any episode of without context and just sit and watch and still really enjoy.
